My name is Kiran Abrams. I was born and raised on the Island of Kauai for 18 years. I recently Moved to Michigan to attend Michigan Technological University as a Geology major. I changed my field of study and currently work full time EMS and volunteer Fire.
When I lived on Kauai I did a lot of bodyboarding, free diving, cliff jumping, hiking and woodworking. I started attempting to make knives out of salvaged steel from cars we would either find in junkyards, or just abandoned on different parts of the island. Living in Hawaii, I had an affinity to Koa wood, and would use that on all of my projects.
My goal at first was not to start a business, rather be able to supply myself and friends with stabilized Hawaiian hardwoods rather than purchasing stabilized blanks. After I got several requests for handle material, I realized I could supply knife makers with stunning Hawaiian hardwoods at a lower cost than a lot of other people out there, thus, Kiran’s Koa was created! My goal here is to allow blade smiths and other wood workers all over the world with the chance to work with top quality materials at an affordable price.
After dealing solely in Koa for a long time, I realized that there are many other amazing species out there. I started branching out and stocking new species from domestic species like maple burl and boxelder to exotics like amboyna burl and various species of rosewood. All my material is legally and sustainably sourced.
